Denver’s Office of Human Rights and Community Partnerships is considering banning gay conversion therapy for minors.

According to Mayor Michael Hancock’s office, the proposal to ban the so-called conversion therapy will be presented to the City Council committee this Wednesday (December 19).

It is reported that the ban will target state-licensed therapists with practices in the city and county who claim that being gay or transgender is a mental illness, Denver Post reported.

In a statement, Hancock said: “These terrible practices that target our youth, simply for being who they are, are dangerous and immoral.

“We’re going to make sure that they never happen within our city.”

The proposal comes after a recommendation by Denver’s LGBTQ Commission.
