Dan Levy used his inaugural Met Gala appearance to make a powerful statement about the LGBTQ community.

The Schitt’s Creek creator walked the runway on Monday (13 September) in an outfit we’re sure Moira Rose would be very proud of, inspired by the theme of American fashion, which featured two men kissing on the front.

The pastel-coloured outfit, with its puffy sleeves, map design, and flower detailed boots, is simply stunning to look at and exactly the level we’ve come to expect from the Met Gala, which returned after a year’s absence caused by the pandemic.

Posting about his outfit on Instagram, Levy explained that he’d worked with Loewe’s designer Jonathan Anderson and Cartier.

He said: “With support from the estate of American multimedia artist and LGBTQIA+ activist, David Wojnarovicz (1954-1992), Jonathan and the design team built upon an image of two men kissing from Wojnarovicz’s work, F*** You F****t F****r, named after a homophobic cartoon the artist had come across.

“But rather than feed on the message of hate, we wanted to celebrate queer love and visibility – acknowledging how hard artists like Wojnarovicz had to fight, while also presenting the imagery in a way that offered a hopeful message.

“Tonight, we’re celebrating the resilience, the love, and the joy of the community while honoring a crucial American voice that was taken from us too soon.”

He added that Loewe had made a donation to Visual AIDS, a charity that had been supported by Wojnarovicz.

But Levy wasn’t the only one serving some serious lewks at the event hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Check out some other stand-out looks from the night below.
