2016-11-26
Chloe Grace Moretz is set to take a lead in a new film entitled The Miseducation of Cameron Post which tells the story of a young woman placed into a gay conversion therapy centre after she's caught with the prom queen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is based on Emily Danforth's controversial novel of the same name. Miseducation will be directed by Desiree Akhavan who is most famous for her film Appropriate Behaviour which focused on young Persian bisexuals living in Brooklyn. The film is set in 1993 though the issue of conversion therapy is still prominent today as vice president-elect Mike Pence previously supported it. Conversion therapy involves therapists using electro shock treatments to induce nausea and shame to create an aversion to same-sex attraction. Chloe Grace Moretz has previously spoken out on gay rights and has mentioned the bullying her gay brothers Trevor and Colin suffered from during high school. The film will also star American Honey's Sasha Lane and is set for a release in 2017.
