As the creator of Grey's Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes knows good drama, and she's about to deliver a festive parce bursting full of it in her first Netflix series, Bridgerton.

Starring Jonathan Bailey, Adjoa Andoh and Dame Julie Andrews, the eight-part series based on Julia Quinn's best-selling novels is set to arrive on the streaming service on Christmas Day, and we've just got our first look at what's to come in a brand new teaser trailer.

Bridgerton tells the story of the eight Bridgerton siblings as they attempt to navigate the competitive world of Regency London high society.

Former Broadchurch and W1A star Bailey, who is gay, stars as eldest son Anthony Bridgerton.

"The quintessential English nobleman, Anthony is the eldest Bridgerton sibling and dutiful head of the family since assuming his late father's title of Viscount", an official description of his character reads.

"Endlessly handsome, charming and rich, he's quite the catch on this year's marriage mart. But if he has any hope of fulfilling his oftentimes overwhelming duty of marrying and producing an heir, Anthony must first learn to temper his pursuit of pleasure."

Of course, this being a Shonda Rhimes show, Bridgerton boasts a refeshingly diverse cast for a period drama set in England, and the teaser trailer promises some aequally as refreshing gay action too...

Guess Shonda really came through on this one.

Bridgerton arrives on Netflix on 25 December. Check out the first teaser trailer below:
