Attitude Music Award: Jess Glynne

Honesty has always proved to be the best policy for Jess Glynne when it comes to her sexuality.

By Steve Brown

Shooting to the spotlight on Clean Bandit’s hit ‘Rather Be’, Jess Glynne has become a household name as her career has continued to go onwards and upwards.

This summer, the 28-year-old claimed her seventh Number One single, which means she now holds the record for most UK chart-toppers by a British female solo artist – a tally higher than that of her idols Adele and Amy Winehouse – and is a rightful recipient of Attitude’s Music Award.

Jess, who recently released her second studio album Always in Between, has faced increased questions about her private life as her star has grown, and in the November Awards issue of Attitude, the singer explains that while her new record is about “self-acceptance”, she won’t put herslef in a “box”.

“It is just not something that I’ve ever enjoyed talking about because I am a private person, and it’s not something that it’s necessary for people to know,” she says of her sexuality.

“At the end of the day, I didn’t do this job for people to know everything about me but at the same time I am aware of the fact that I write music that is personal and people want to know what that is about.

“It’s not something that I’m scared of, it’s just something that I don’t entertain in a deep way.

“I don’t like to put myself in a box in anything in my life.”
