Moonlight has been honoured with the Film Award at The Virgin Holidays Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar. The critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama, which was named Best Picture at the Oscars back in February, was presented with the award by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child director John Tiffany at the star-studded ceremony at London's Roundhouse on Thursday night (October 12). Set in Liberty City, a poor, majority-black suburb of Miami, Moonlight follows the life of the sensitive but spirited Chiron from youth to adulthood as he wrestles with his sexuality. Based on an unpublished semi-autobiographical script by gay playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney, the film skillfully deals with important issues of toxic masculinity, drug abuse, male role models and the relationship between a troubled mother and her son. Beyond the drama and almost farce of its Oscars-night victory, Moonlight delivered a story of the struggle to overcome shame that could not be more relevant to today's audiences.
