American Horror Story: 1984 is set to be the shortest season ever in the history of the franchise.

The latest season follows five teenagers who head to become camp counsellors but they are swiftly followed and tormented by two serial killers - including the Night Stalker and Mr Jingles.

Over the last few episodes, we have seen twists revealed, murders happening left, right and centre and - sadly - not as much topless Gus Kenworthy.

But for fans of this season, we have some sad news. There's not much left until it ends!

Currently, five episodes of the ninth season in Ryan Murphy's anthology series have aired - at the time of recording - and it's reported that there is only four episodes left, Digital Spy claim.

This means the season has just nine episodes, making it the shortest ever season of the popular series, according to Digital Spy.

Other seasons including Asylum, Coven and Freak Show had 13 episodes while Murder House and Hotel both had 12 each.

Cult boasted 11 episodes and Roanoke and last year's cross-over season Apocalypse had just 10.

Although a shorter season than normal, with big twists already being revealed, we are curious to see just where the season will take us.

For US audiences, tonight (October 23) will air the 100th episode in the franchise and the trailer for this week's episode - which will air in the UK on October 24 - teases a link to possible cross-overs with past seasons.
