For launching
Burberry into the 21st Century and back into the nations heart,
Christopher Bailey is our designer of the year. On that fateful day in 2003,
Daniella Westbrook stepped outside fully clad in Burberry’s signature check,
baby and stroller included. For most brands this would have signalled the end
of its fortunes, but thanks to the Midas touch of their Creative Director
Christopher Bailey, the iconic brand has never been so successful. Over the
past eleven years Bailey has transformed the brand, perfectly evoking its vast
heritage whilst embracing technological advances.
It was one of the first
brands to stream its live catwalk shows to the public and allowed viewers to
order items as the models strutted out and most recently their new Regent Street
flagship store, which opened last month, heralded a new benchmark in retail.
Its front rows at London Fashion Week are legendary, featuring everyone from
Anna to Kate to Andy Murray ready to witness something incredible such as an
indoor rainstorm. Its campaigns are cool, its accessories lustful and its
collections consistently covetable, for this and many more Christopher Bailey
is our designer of the year.
