Abandon Normal Devices (AND) Festival a quirky festival up north, that presents art, digital culture and new cinema. AND is part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, and takes place annually in Liverpool and Manchester on alternate years (this time it’ll be in Manchester from 29 Aug – 02 Sep).

As part of AND 2012, San Francisco’s most celebrated and outstanding faux queen, trixxie carr, a born-female drag queen will be performing her own original music as well as fiercing audiences with her provocative performance art. The Right to RULE will feature alt-drag, musical cabaret and riot-theatre, culminating in an outrageous finale and huge party in the newly renovated club space at Gorilla on Whitworth Street West (01 September, 22:45).

The Right to RULE also includes performances by immaculate Amazonian singer-songwriter Honey Mahogany, hybrid new-media interventions from Jeremy Bailey and the best of Manchester’s bleeding-edge weirdness including avant-garde fashion designers and live artists The Volkov Commanders, performance group Eggs Collective, party gang Tranarchy and whirling dervishes Ultra Violet Violence. Music will feature guilty pleasures like Hall and Oates’ One on One, Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black, Adele’s Hometown Glory and Siouxsie & The Banshees’ Swimming Horses. In addition, both trixxie and Honey will be performing original music they have written themselves, including trixxie’s Rotisserie Booty and Honey’s Two Spirit.

This new commission follows trixxie’s contribution to the infamous live cinema experience Peaches Christ presents All About Evil at AND Festival, Cornerhouse, in 2010, when riot police arrived to calm the milling crowds and spoof protestors.
