You don’t sit and watch this hit, it happens to you. One by one punters walk,
slide or crawl into a series of rooms where they are plunged into a series of
brief experiences. You might be suddenly be surrounded by the mayhem of an
auction room and be asked to be the auctioneer, or find yourself walking out
into a TV studio where you’re the chat show host, or find yourself presiding
over an army medical. In fact you won’t experience any of these, the exact
sequences of extraordinary adventures you’ll face is kept a secret so as not to
spoil the surprise but during the 45 minutes that you’re passing through this
unique event you’ll encounter over a dozen situations that are every bit as
varied and exciting.
Each moment is beautifully achieved with minutely detailed sets and hundreds of
volunteer performers bringing the set pieces to life. At first it’s
nerve-racking but once you come to realise that nothing’s been designed to
humiliate or scare you and that you’re not being tested or judged it’s
tremendously liberating and you’ll find yourself thrilled to be turning each
corner. There’s been quite a few of these interactive, solo audience pieces
recently but this is a masterpiece of the genre. They’ve already run it in
Brighton, Holborn and Bethnal Green, now it’s in Stratford, East London.
VERDICT: ***** (Five Stars) A masterpiece. The
best £20 you’ll ever spend on theatre... if you’re lucky enough to get a
ticket.
